This site contains an excellent collection of case studies that have addressed development issues on Native American lands and is offered courtesy of the Science Education Resource Center (SERC) at Carleton College. The site has section on gold mining and the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. This section may be of interest to those going to or that have been to the Pine Ridge Reservation with Gundersen Lutheran's Global Partners initiative.
